We came during late August and it wasn't busy at all. We will definitely be back again!

First off there are NO alligators here, like one image shows. I asked the rangers and they said no. There is potentially water moccasins, but no ranger has seen one in like the past decade. I went with my husband and 3 and 5 year old. Riding bikes around the road was a huge hit. The river is really nice, but be aware that the dam and pool area are REALLY slippery even with chacos shoes on.

The park service is great! Very kind helpful people everywhere you turn.

The trails we went on are decent, no intense hikes or anything, but good dog walking paths. The cows nearby are fun to watch (just mind the private property!). Further up river at the dam we found some bats hanging out, and got to watch them fly out at sunset. Only saw them one night though so they may not be a permanent feature.

This is a smaller park with the river the central attraction. Not many places for hiking if that's your thing. Swimming and fishing. Three nights here was perfect. The park is literally in town so biking for some ice cream is also a good choice.

We've been wanting to check this place out for awhile now. It's about 4 hours from us in Ft Worth. The kiddos had an extra long weekend and we took advantage of it.

The water was a nice temperature, much warmer than expected but not hot, it cooled off considerably after the rain. There are lots of places to get in and there is a lot of exploring to do! Definitely bring some water shoes, the top of the dam is very slippery and elsewhere you may have to climb roots and rocks to get out.

Great river access and lots of shade! A nice respite from a week of chaos. There are well maintained bathrooms along with kayak and tune rentals. Cabins and campsites are available. Great fun just a quick drive north of San Antonio!

Really good place to stay with family and friends. Beautiful and calm. I truly recommend.

The kayak rental experience was very easy! We kayaked above the dam because it looked longer than the lower part, the launch is a bit of a walk, just keep in mind the time you need to get out to walk back. You can do a lap in about half an hour depending on your speed. We had enough time to make two or three laps with a little swimming in between to cool off.

The screened shelters were clean and tidy and very nice to stay in (could use more hooks though! Maybe bring some command hooks if you plan on hanging anything inside). We did catch a little rain and the wind blew it right through the screen, but a couple dollar store tablecloths saved us from most of it. (Might be good to bring some tarps if you're expecting rain. There's not much to attach anything to, we figured magnets would have been a good option to keep the tablecloths up once the wind died down.)
